But, I've come up with a new concept for my blog...

Pinterest Test Kitchen.

How easy and delicious are all those recipes that are pinned?
Cooking those recipes that are on your home page and have hundreds of pins with comments like, "My husband love this XX", "Weekly go to meal", etc.
Should be fun!

Bare with me, as I figure this all. Comments, suggestions, feedback all welcome.

The mattress came first so I slept with the mattress on the floor for two weeks until the furniture was delivered. Even on the floor, I don't think I've slept so well in years. Spending the extra $$ on the mattress (and splurging on the pillows at Bloomingdale's) was definitely worth it. The extra storage I gained with the increased size of the dresser and drawers under the bed have been very beneficial for my shopping addiction.

Now the fun stuff, decorating! A little girly with a touch of contemporary.
(I mean I've taken like 2 or 3 classes when I was a member of Equinox but I've never taken a class at a real studio with the shoes, dark room, etc - the whole shebang). I was a little nervous when I signed up since I was pretty much clueless, but I reached out to Ashley for some guidance/sage wisdom since she is a spin-aholic.

Here are my tips:

Wear tight pant or shorts. Baggy things will ride the entire class bc you get up and down a lot.

Hydrate starting now bc you sweat so much!

Tell the teacher you are new so you get the bike set up properly.

It's so much fun and the class flies by! Rock out to the music and enjoy it. Can't wait to hear what you think!

I followed her advise to a T. Just to be safe I didn't go out on Friday night because my class was at 8:30am on Saturday morning and I wanted to hydrate appropriately.

I got the studio 15 minutes early just to be sure that I could get my bike set up properly and get the "tour". Once I was set up and learned to clip in, I was ready to SPIN. My teacher came over and walked me through the positions and cranked me up 3 intervals and said "stay there", I wasn't going defy instructions especially on my first try.

The class was a lot of fun. I was amazed at how much I could do/was doing. I was keeping up at about 90% with the regulars in the class. Thank God for all those years dancing/working out with trainers learning how to breathe; I felt like I was doing Lamaze for about 75% of the class. I could never quite get my legs to spin as fast as the instructors or some of the other students when he said "FAST", as my hip flexors aren't that flexible/lose. At about 3/4 way through the class, I had to hang back a bit more and stop being as "dancy". But, when I thought I couldn't really last much longer it was time for the cool down song, I survived!

I walked out of class dripping in sweat and red as a tomato (my face matched my shirt) and bought a 5-pack to try some more classes and teachers.

I look so attractive ;/

My teacher was impressed on how well I did for a beginner, shit - so was I. I was even more impressed with the crazy bitches who were taking back-to-back classes or coming back later that day for another. The receptionist asked if I was going to come back tomorrow, I said "I'll see you next week". I'm not that crazy and I'd like to be able to walk to work on Monday.

Here's to hoping I get addicted to this like Ashley and a few of my other friends, but I'm thinking 1-day a week is a good start for now.

We all do it. Facebook stalk friends, old friends especially those from High School and College. Comparing our lives to theirs, making sure our lives are still a tad better than some of the others. I wonder how much of their profile is truth and how much is fabricated to make their lives look exciting.

The one thing I can't seem to get over is how much these old friends go on vacation. Its to exotic locations or just the number of trips they go on. Every other post in my feed is someone on vacation and certain people show up more than others and they're always on vacation. Its not like they live in Europe and can easily jet to another Country for the weekend, like Ashley use to when she lived in London. I wonder what job they have that gives them so much vacation time? How much money are they making or is Dad bankrolling these awesome trips?
Why am I waisting my vacation time on my family (sorry Mom) vs. going to some exotic location with a few friends?

Any Thoughts?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03538342462071859043noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447396060508667506.post-85517059426700804032013-05-27T13:24:00.000-04:002013-05-27T13:24:14.057-04:00I'm the worst blogger EVERSo, It's been since February since I've last blogged. I've feel like a blogger failure.
It's not like I haven't had the time to blog. There are many nights I've been on the couch flipping through the channels that I could have updated, but instead opted not. I figured I'd start my mass update of life for the last 3 months.

End of Feb:
Nash Bash - If you know me, you know I love music, Country music in particular. My iPhone is 75% Country, 15% 80's and 10% Today's Pop/R&B. Tanya got VIP tickets to Nash Bash and invited me to attend with her. To say I was psyched was not even close! There is finally a Country radio station in NYC and to launch the station they hosted 3 nights of major country headliners. Tanya and I attended night 1, what we can remember of it, it was AMAZING!
March:
Sinus Surgery - Because its been a few years since I've had an elective surgery I decided it was time for another. This year I went for sinus surgery, something that I didn't know I needed until I went to see an ENT and discovered that my sinuses were so fucked up it could be one of the reasons for my migraines and why I've only ever breathed out of one notstil at a time. I'll spare you all the gory details, but Mom came and was an amazing nurse as per usual. Besides blowing some of the craziest goobers out of my nose, it was up there on the best elective surgeries list.
April:
Home - In early April we celebrated my Dad's 65th Birthday. The whole family came home to San Diego. I don't know why I said whole family, there is only me & Ian. Maybe because Ian has a family of his own so our family is a whole lot bigger now.

It was great being in San Diego hanging out at home, chillin with my parents, seeing how much Jackson and Makenzie have grown and I got to squeeze in some time with friends, too!
I've never felt so popular as I did when I was home because Jackson and Makenzie were either constantly showing off for me or wanting to play with me. I think my iPad nearly died on a daily basis playing 'The Game of Life' with Jackson. He always wanted lots of kids and to be rich at the end of every game.
'Kenzie is more of a girl everyday, she loved getting pedicures with the girls and told me I had boobies, very observant.
But at the end of the trip, it's nice to come home to NYC. Just like my Dad said when he picked me up from the airport, 'we loving having you, but we love it when you leave too.'

Ca-nan-na-da - A week in Canada, Toronto one would think, but no the office I worked out of was in Brampton, or as my VP calls it 'The Bramptons'. Its known as the Flower City, but really its an industrial/big box store city with tons of fast food restaurants. Not exactly my kind of City, but the lack of entertainment was great for getting work done.
The week of work was productive, nothing special.
What was interesting was the reactions to me. I was told to "slow down", we don't walk that fast here in Canada. My sarcasm went over 'OK' in some meetings, but not so well in others (noted for next time).
Syracuse - It was some serious fam bam time in Syracuse for Ashley's senior weekend. To catch everyone up, Ashley is/(was) a Senior at Syracuse and the catcher on the Softball team. For her senior weekend the WHOLE family caravanned from Jersey to 'Cuse for the weekend to watch her play in her last collegiate games. My parents even flew out from Cali for the big event, my Mom is Ashley's godmother.
Then my Uncle Dave (he's a chef) made dinner in Ashley's apartment. We squeezed 11 adults into a college apartment living room, it was real bonding moment but the copious amounts of wine and beer consumed helped.
Then off to the hotel I discovered that I would be rooming with my parents. This took the bonding to another level.
'Cuse won the 2/3 games and went to the Big East Tournament (they lost in the first round, but Ashley made it back to walk in Graduation).

Mom & Dad came into the City after the 'Cuse weekend for a long weekend on Thursday before they left on Saturday before Mother's Day. Dad got to see my apartment for the first time besides in pictures or via Facetime. He approved. They finally got to eat at Carino's, a year later. Friday Michelle and David came over for HH before we had my early birthday/Mother's day dinner. Saturday Mom and I made Dad breakfast. He wanted to out for Brunch, but I really wanted Pork Roll. Guess who won?! Dad hasn't had Pork Roll in over 20+ years, he now remembers how good the Jersey delicacy really is. They left in the early afternoon back to Sunny San Diego. Its always nice having them visit because they buy the good wine and there is always a chilled glass waiting for me when I get home from work.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03538342462071859043noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447396060508667506.post-90839048939255081582013-02-15T18:04:00.000-05:002013-02-15T18:04:08.385-05:00Phase 3: OCD OrganizeToday I took off a half day at work for something very important to me, organization.

After two visits to The Container Store to design my coat/entry and linen closets, today the elfa closets were installed this afternoon and totally worth half the vacation day. I need/crave order and organization in my life and my closets were not working for me, so I took advantage of the Container Store's elfa sale.
On Thursday, all the elfa components were delivered. It was a very interesting elevator ride up with everything on a cart. The surprise for us (Jevne, Marissa and Tara) was that it happened to be the COLDEST weekend in the South. We were promised that only a fleece was really necessary, but honestly we needed our winter coats all weekend.

Anyways, Back in December Rob had reached out to Jevne about rounding up some of Shelly's NYC friends for a surprise visit for her 30th Birthday. Marissa, Jevne, Tara and I made the trek down to surprise Shelly for her big 3-0!

Lets Do This btw my head looks HUGE

We surprised Shelly on Friday night after she went to dinner with Becky, Shannon and her Mom. She was clueless, which made the surprise even better.

Practicing our surprise, not so patiently waiting

Once Shelly had gotten over the fact that we were actually there, we starting hanging out and enjoying the night.

Saturday, we just lounged all day on the couch then went and got manicures and pedicures. What else do a bunch of girls do?

After we got back from our manis & pedis Melissa, Jenny & Haley were hiding behind the kitchen island to surprise Shelly. I was just as excited because I got to see my favorite Southern friends too.

A little catch up, then time to get ready for dinner.

Back from dinner and then time to watch the DVDs Melissa had given Shelly for her birthday. Which were amazing, since they were the video tapes from Shelly's video camera from college. Watching those videos caused mass bouts of laughter.

Sunday everyone slowly drifted down stairs and we watched Ted for Rob, then ordered amazing southern BBQ. Then sadly enough it was time to leave.

So, let me update you all... I'm in phase 2.
I've finished purchasing all the furniture (except for one piece, the entry way table) and there are actual window coverings to bring warmth into the abode and give me some privacy. I've done a little decorating, but the major wall pieces and nick knacks will come later.

For your visual pleasure:

The bedroom updates: Roman blackout shades because we all know I don't do light in the am (and they're great for when I have a migraine :( ).
Make-up vanity, who knew I could finally have a vanity? I didn't but, love that I do. In May I'll be getting a new bed, I've already purchased the bedding (thinking ahead, as usual).
Today I went to the Container Store and got my OCD on designing two closets, my entry way coat closet and linen closet. They deliver on 2/14 and install on 2/15, I can't wait to get uber organized!!
But, I'm not that type of person who likes to wait. I'm the person who wanted it all to happen the day I moved in. My million dollar idea is to create a company that in one day, moves you from one place to another and completely unpacks, organizes and decorates your new place. Perfection. You heard it here first, so don't steal it (unless it already exists).
Still having a few boxes on the floor causes my OCD to flair up like a bad case of eczema.

Because you're all so demanding for pictures of the apartment... Here is where I am in the phases of moving, somewhere between moving in and decorating, aka Phase 1A

Sunday before I moved Michelle and I ran a few fun before moving errands and then I headed over to my new abode to do a little house cleaning. I met my next door neighbor, Jamie who was SO nice. She was awesome to give me the low down for the floor, I got the general information on each of my neighbors and some informational gossip.

To ensure we start this post off right, here are the before pics:
During the walk through he cleaned my bathroom floor because of a leaking pipe (but I wont go there). So I didn't really need to do much bathroom cleaning on Sunday.
Monday bright and early at 9am the Movers showed up ready to load up the last 3 years of my life into a moving van.

It took 3 movers only 3.5 hours to pack up 30 boxes and my furniture. Who knew I was such a hoarder and it's amazing how fast everything you own can be packed away.
Once we (me & the movers) arrived at my new apartment it was a whirlwind. Boxes started accumulating everywhere and then the movers where gone and I was all alone to unpack. To so say I felt slightly overwhelmed was an understatement. But really, I wanted to find the box that had my cooler of refrigerator contents which had my left over Pad Thai because I was STARVING!
Thank God for Michelle who came over after work and helped me unpack. She totally kicked my kitchen's ass! We kept it classy ate pizza and drank some prosecco for dinner to celebrate my new apartment. I'm saving the classy champagne for when I feel like I'm completely moved in.
By the end of the night the living room was slowly unpacked....
I only wish I had taken off Tuesday and just not Monday, because let's be honest my need to organize is very intense. and south on Monday night I've been off work all week because my office is on 39th & 5th and they haven't restored power back to that area yet, but hopefully by Monday. I've been going stir crazy at home without a schedule. I wonder if this is what unemployment feels like. My apartment is clean, organized and I've made some amazing meals with my time off. I wish I was already moved in to my new apartment, my time would be better utilized there getting my new home put together.

To help keep myself occupied and get some social activity back into my life, I've opened up a little Bed & Breakfast in my
apartment for a few friends who are without power starting on Wednesday.

Melanie was the first friend to come up, it took her an hour to get 65 blocks in the late morning once they opened up the streets to cabs and some public transportation. Once she got her she charged all her electronics and was thankful to see a flushing toilet. We were going to go to lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant across the street, but when we arrived there was a group of LES (lower east side) blocking the doorway and being all "cool", so we opted for the lesser choice of Blockheads. Then we headed over to the madness that was Fairway Market to get food for Wednesday and Thursday.

Amy and Chris came up Wednesday evening for dinner and so Amy could shower. Amy felt like a whole new person after getting clean.

After I made dinner we went out to meet Chris' friends at a bar in midtown for Halloween. Amy dressed like a women who wanted her power back and I apparently dressed like Wilma Flintstone (thanks to a guy at the bar who asked if that's what I was dressed up as, I said, well of course). At first we thought we could take a cab, we went 3 blocks in 5 minutes and then Amy made the executive decision we could walk 20 blocks faster, which was true. After a few drinks for Halloween Mellie and I headed back uptown for bed.

Thursday morning Amy called to advise that she just couldn't live in the darkness anymore and was coming over. Thursday we all did as much work as we could remotely from our blackberries and home laptops, but let's be honest its not the same as being at your desk. Thursday night it was a full house because Amy and Chris decided to spend the night too, Slumber Party! So I made a fabulous dinner of grilled skirt steak and we had a few bottles of wine while flipping between The Voice and X-Factor.

Friday mid-morning Amy and Chris headed out to the Hampton's to his Aunt house to get out of the City and Mel and I brunch at Luke's Lobster. Then the most amazing thing happened, my Laundromat opened and my laundry from last week was no longer held hostage.

Later this afternoon I'll take a walk down to my new apartment and check out what's happening to my 168 shares to ensure there is no major damages there. But I do remember signing something at the closing ceremonies that I'm protected by FEMA in case of a flood and I have homeowners insurance that started on 10/13 (I'm not stupid).

I'll also head down to the East River and FDR to get the good pictures of the rising river and highway flooding. Those should be quite awesome.

As for the rest of the City, I won't deny that Sandy was a total bitch and fucked us up. There are 200k Manhattanites without power and almost all of Southern island is flooded or under water. All public transportation is still down and some subway stations are flooded. It is Bananas. Check out FDNY Incidents for all the crazy pics from last night.

More to come later today...

UPDATE: 4:45pm

I went out at 2pm for a wandering walk to my new apartment to see what Sandy had done farther up town. First the whole world was out and about, either dressed for brunch or dressed like they just rolled out of bed, I fell in the second group. Restaurants were starting to open and people were anxious to get out of their apartments and stop eating canned green beans.
As I walked up First Ave there were definitely more down trees; 82nd between 1st/2nd had a HUGE leafy tree in the middle of the street, and near 90th whole trees uprooted. A little more than what I had seen around my block.
As I approached my new apartment building I looked up to ensure no windows were cracked, check, and then walked up to the building. On the 93rd Street side it looked like they were pumping some water out from the basement (?) there was a hose running into the street from the building and water was running out. Then I walked around to the 94th Street side and noticed a ConEd truck on the corner and a guy about to go into a hole (you know those ConEd holes). I continued to turn the corner and looked into the lobby and it was pitch black with a huddle of residents standing around. I'm going to make the assumption after putting together the pieces that Mill Rock lost power last night or this am. Then as I continued up the Street there were 2 other emergency ConEd trucks parked on the block. Guess I was in the right place last night. But if I was already moved in, I would have walked down 29 floors and walked up to the Wishen's and spent the night with them. It's good to have friends so close.
After doing my investigative walk up to the new place I went to the Wishen's to hang out for a bit and catch up. It was nice to have some real contact with people and catch up on life, gossip and Sandy updates.
I was going to walk down to the East River and check out what was going on down there but it started to rain on my walk so I skipped the River and headed home.

It's been rainy and windy all day, but nothing too scary on the UES. I've had the day off and will have another day off tomorrow because of this classy gal. They've shut down all transit and I've got nothing better to do than watch tv, blog, read and well that's really it. If I continued to watch the news I would be curled up in the corner of my apartment crying for help, they really over dramatize everything. There is a reason I don't live in lower Manhattan, Long Island, Coastal Jersey and in any flood plains. There are parts of the UES, like FDR that are starting to flood a bit because the increase of water in the East River but I don't think it's going to make it up to 2nd or 3rd Ave.
Maybe I'm just jaded from Irene? We all got over crazed, taped our windows, bought a million batteries, non-parishable food, etc and all we had in the City was some fallen twigs.

Yes, the wind is really starting to blow and some friends are texting getting a little more concerned about the weather, but I'm an optimist. I'm not in any evacuation zone, I have a few bottles of wine, so I'm ready.

I think the name Sandy was a poor choice on the weather service, because all I can think of is the Grease song..

I would love it if a weather man dressed as Danny and serenaded Sandy, maybe she'd turn around and go back to High School...

More updates to come as she's supposed to become a Pink Lady and hit NYC this evening.

If anything, pray for me because the rumor is ConEd is shutting down power for certain parts of Manhattan. Hopefully I will never be that certain part.

UPDATE: 5:15pm

Here is a pic from of what it looks like outside my apartment. As you can see I have no cause for concern right now. Just some rain and a few gusts a wind every once and a while.
UPDATE: 7:15pm

I made a delicious shrimp dinner in honor of Sandy around 6:15 with a nice glass of wine. She is now no longer a Hurricane but a Post-Tropical Storm. Looking outside my window, its just crazy windy but crazier shit is happening around the area. Check out the Daily News live tracker for a feed of the details, its bananas. I might have cabin fever, but everything is still kosher on the UES. I just seriously feel bad for those reporters who are out in the winds having to report "Its windy and the water is rising. No one has seen anything like this ever". No shit, send those reporters home, its all the same the water is rising on the coast and it's windy.

UPDATE: 10:55pm

As I'm going to bed, my street looks like any normal night. It is calm with just a few leaves on the street. I hear my neighbors doors opening from them coming and going. I still have power, there is no rain, no flooding and though this entire ordeal I've only had a few major wind gusts. It is times like these that I am grateful that I live on the Upper East Side. I enjoyed a few bottles of my favorite "good" wine and watched way too much tv. Let's hope I wake up to power unlike many friends who are going to bed without because they want to be 'cool' and live in lower Manhattan.

I own 168 shares of Mill Rock Plaza, 725 square feet of my very own on the 29th floor.

I had my closing ceremonies for the most overwhelming, frustrating, longest, out of control event of my life (thus far) on Tuesday, 10/23. I had a very nice bank teller write the biggest check of my life out of my bank account and then I handed it over and at that moment I felt very poor.

My broker likes to tell me that it's all down hill from here. He obviously hasn't figured out HOW much of a control freak with OCD that I am. I haven't moved yet. That's not downhill, that's a whole lotta uphill until I'm moved in, organized and partially decorated.

Look out for awesome "I've moved" cards to come sometime in November and pictures of the new place once I'm all moved in and put together.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03538342462071859043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447396060508667506.post-999525851766108652012-10-29T16:26:00.001-04:002012-10-29T16:26:24.306-04:00Labor Day aka Megan's Yearly Pilgrimage to NYCAs you may know, every year Megan makes her pilgrimage to NYC for Labor Day weekend and this year was no different.

We'll go day by day to get the cliff notes version of our weekend adventures

Thursday night: Megan arrives, we gossip and then go to bed.

Friday: I have my last Summer Friday, so Megan sleeps in and then meets me at work. We walked in my personal Hell (Times Square) to our favorite College restaurant, the OG aka The Olive Garden for salad and bread sticks because its what we always do. Then headed home for a quick nap because..
Yankee's game vs Orioles Friday night. The Yankees lost, but it was a great game none the less.
Saturday: We really classed it up and headed out to Coney Island. Of course we had Nathan's hot dogs and rode the Cyclone.
Luna Park was OK, the rides were more expensive than the local fair I grew up with, but hey its NY, right? But we got a few rides out of our credits and we had fun baking in the hot sun. I think we got the most for our subway ride walking the boardwalk and scoping the locals.
Somehow we after shoving our faces full of Nathan's we managed to be hungry for dinner, so we ate at Vespa for some delicious Italian and then 16 Handles for dessert. We gotta have our peanut butter sauce for our froyo.

Sunday: US Open! All day tennis! We saw Roddick's second to last match ever, which was quite amazing.
Monday: Monday was something quite amazing. First we went to the Brooklyn bridge for some touristy flare, then stumbled upon Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club. Where we met an interesting group of 3 families from NJ who loved Megan because she was from the OC, they have 'Housewives too. I would have to say that next Summer I'm going to have to head back to Beekman's for HH or weekends after brunches, it was an awesome find.
Tuesday: Megan left. So sad

As usual it was an amazing weekend of fun all over the City. Can't wait for next year's adventures....
It is Makenzie first visit to the East and Jackson's second.

On Sunday, after the Tim/Kenny concert my Mom, Dad, Jackson and Makenzie picked me up at the Trenton train station. It was an interesting ride stuck between two car seats back to Uncle Mark's, but Jackson made me an awesome sticker poster from his trip to the Please Touch Museum.
It was then swim time for the kiddies, then family BBQ time. Gotta love Uncle Dave's BBQ. I could eat it everyday, though it probably wouldn't be too healthy. After stuffing our faces with delicious BBQ its time to take family pictures. Maybe it wasn't the smartest move to stuff our faces before we take pictures.
I love having my family visit, but it's a whirlwind. I'm sure more for my Uncle and Aunts because the fam stays in Jers. My brother keeps saying that when the kiddies get older they are going to spend their Summer's out here like I use to. I'm not so sure about that, but we have a few more years to discuss. Regardless, I love having my family visit and getting to spend quality time with them (even if its limited to a few hours on the weekends).Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03538342462071859043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447396060508667506.post-88594112651292338762012-10-29T14:31:00.000-04:002012-10-29T14:31:21.843-04:00I love you Tim!Let's talk about my love for Tim McGraw and my college crush on Kenny Chesney...

Michelle and I went to the Brother's of the Sun Tour on 8/11 at Met Life Stadium.

We got to the Stadium way earlier than we needed to, opps. We didn't read the reviews that there are two opening acts before Timmy goes on. So we had lots of time to eat and gossip about the concert goers finding their seats.

Its a very unique mix of fans in the stadium. I don't know where the rednecks come from because they populated the Stadium like cockroaches. Where is the 'country' outside the City where these fans come from? There are the sophisticated folks who like country music (Michelle and I) and then there are the rednecks in too-tight Wranglers, plaid shirts or ripped t-shirts with a John Deer hat and chew in their mouth. We won't get into the horrid cowboy hats some of the ladies were wearing. WTF, what are these people thinking? It was so redneck that during Tim's concert a fight broke out in the stands between two women. It took Security and NJ State Police a few minutes to break it up. It was OOC (out of control).

Back to the good stuff...

Tim looked amazing and sang all my favorite songs, even ones I had forgotten about but soon remembered as the chorus picked up. "A heart don't forget something like that."
Life has been overwhelming and even though I know I should have updated as the events happened I opted to sit on my couch instead. But now that I have been sequestered in my apartment by Major Bloomberg because of Sandy, I have plenty of time to give everyone an update.

So be prepared for some major blog posts to come, as a lot has happened between August and October.
I got the cookie at 3 and a glass of wine at 7:30pm, the punching bag didn't quite happen.
But I did walk home and it might have been better than the punching bag. Cleared the head and relaxed me from the stressful day of "not curing cancer".
Just one of those days....Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03538342462071859043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447396060508667506.post-82790017149380823132012-07-24T21:56:00.001-04:002012-07-25T17:45:02.596-04:00Red Heads: 2 Distinct Types

Angie Everhart was on the
Kardashian's the other night and her appearance got me to thinking (1)
Thank God for gorgeous natural red heads, its super models like her that give my
breed a good name. And (2) There is a real distinct difference between
the "pretty ones" and the "gingers" and we all shouldn't be grouped into
one category.

First: Red hair occurs naturally on approximately 1–2% of the human population. It
occurs more frequently (2–6%) in people of northern or western European ancestry, and less frequently in other populations. Red hair
appears in people with two copies of a recessive gene onchromosome 16
which causes a mutation in the MC1R protein (source Wikipedia).

That means I'm special (and not in the way my bother use to make fun of
me), more special than all you poo and pee heads with brown and blonde
hair. How normal and plain you are - Boring!

Second: I
never understood how my minority-haired group got such a bad rap, where
did this "ginger" harassment come from? Not all of us should be
considered "ginger", we're not all soul-less and vampire-like, like
described on urban dictionary.
I'm pretty sure I have a soul (last time I checked) and I'm definitely
not vampire-like. Like a previous post, I'm the tannest red head you've
ever seen so that myth is totally debunked.

I personally think there should be two separate and distinct groups,
just like brown and brunette. There should be red and ginger.

I remember the day almost vividly. July 4th was spent with Jordan and friends at the Kenwood pillow fights then back to my brother's house to finish packing up the last of my stuff. Jordan offered to drive me down to Oakland where my Mom had reserved a hotel room for me by the airport. Jordan being the good friend that she is, spent the night with me so I didn't have to take the airport shuttle at 5am. On the drive to Oakland she gave me a black fabric box with pictures on each side of all my best friends and a few other mementos. I still have the black box, I put my spare change in it and go digging for quarters every other Sunday when I do my laundry. Jordan dropped me off at the airport, a tear or two was shed as we said our goodbyes. Thank God for curb side because I had 4 large suitcases, this was before airlines charged you for every little thing, and a carry-on for my journey. Non-stop to Philly. My Uncle Dave's girlfriend Jen (but they've been together for so long, she's really like an Aunt) picked me up and I was a sight to be seen, me trying to maneuver 4 large bags without any help, because I didn't want to tip the skycaps or get a cart (sometimes I'm so cheap).

Once in Jersey at my Uncle Mark and Aunt Dawn's, I was informed by my Uncle Mark I was going to work tomorrow, that was unexpected. I thought I would have a few days to get settled and acclimated, guess not. The next morning I took one of my large suitcases with me so I could drop it off at my new NYC apartment (oohhh!!), Shelly was kind enough to wait for me to arrive before going to work so I could at least unload some of my belongings.

The next few nights after work were spent getting all the necessities to move. Bedding, towels, lots of containers (we all know I'm an organized freak), it felt like I was going to college again the way my Aunt Dawn and I went though BBB and used those coupons like mad women. One night my Uncle Mark and I went into the Barn (it's a literal red barn next to their house full of my family's stuff - old furniture, my PopPop's old law books & case files, type writers, church benches, all kinds of random stuff). In the barn I picked out my bedroom furniture - a chest of drawers (once belonged to one of my Uncle's), a side table to be used for my computer (once my Mother's) and a night stand (once my grandparent's).

So really Saturday, July 8th is my "official" anniversary because that was the day I moved into my first NYC apartment with Becky & Shelly.

That morning we (my Uncle Mark, Uncle Dave and my cousin Jonathan) packed up my uncle's truck with all my stuff and we drove to NYC on the way picking up my Uncle Matt and other cousin Max. The drive itself was an adventure; 3 LARGE males, 2 scrawny 11-year old boys and me in a extended cab F-150 with a full bed of my stuff driving through the City.

We get to my apartment and I think we slightly scared Becky and Shelly who I hadn't met in person yet (besides my quick intro to Shelly on Thursday) as my Uncles take over the move-in process. It probably didn't help that at the time I was still rocking my multi-colored hair, I was not very preppy at the time. They were carrying up the furniture and suitcases up 5 floors (that's right - walk up! Railroad to-boot), rearranging the apartment and taking over any conversation with their loud boisterous voices and personalities.

My Uncle Matt rewired all the cable, Uncle Dave took over painting from Shelly, as she was doing it all wrong and Uncle Mark took me and Becky to Home Depot so we could buy cheap AC units for our windows all awhile Max & Jonathan were running around on the roof of the building. By the end of the day the apartment was pretty much "all done" besides decorating and my Uncle Mark went to Dinosaur BBQ to bring back dinner for everyone. My Uncles all left with crushes on Becky & Shelly and I made friends for life.

----

I've now lived in NYC for 6 years (effective Sunday, 7/8) and I can't say that I've never looked back. This was supposed to be a 1.5-2 year experiment and there were some rough times that made me re-think moving back to Cali or going somewhere else, but I've toughed it out and now I know NYC is home. I guess my last official move to making myself a "true" New Yorker is giving up my Ca drivers license, and yes I've kept it all these years.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03538342462071859043noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447396060508667506.post-65433195993945448552012-06-24T11:58:00.001-04:002012-06-24T11:58:07.651-04:00'Kenzie - In Vogue

I bought Makenzie this dress in February because it was too damn cute and I think it is my duty as her Auntie living in NYC to keep her in fashion forward attire even at a young age.

I love the fact that my sister-in-law Teresa saved the dress for 'Kenzie's 18-month pictures so it could be memorialized forever and even though she's not looking into the camera in this picture, its still my favorite.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03538342462071859043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447396060508667506.post-4017412864539647372012-06-24T11:44:00.000-04:002012-06-24T11:44:28.092-04:00Becky got Married!Becky & Max got married in Savannah and it was an amazing weekend of love, fun and my favorite Southern family!

I flew down Thursday so I could stay at the Creek House with Becky before heading to Savannah and I knew I would be put to work. First by Jon Stier to help him put up the new cover for his boat (but that was a disaster since we didn't have all the right parts and the directions were not clear). I was also attacked by bugs while helping him put everything together in the grass, I should have covered myself in DEET before we started vs after the first couple bites but it was a lost cause. It looked like I was attacked by paint balls all over the back of my legs, the welts were so big. Thank God my dresses would cover a majority of the bites/welts). My second job was helping Becky put together the guests bags for the hotel, it turned into a little assembly line of goodies.

Friday we headed into Savannah and enjoyed the day at the pool. Becky and I had Noah (her 11 yr-old nephew) with us, so as Becky ran around the hotel doing a few things Noah and I had swim races in the pool. We raced the breast stroke, side stroke, butterfly & freestyle. I haven't swam that much since I don't know when. My arms were exhausted and my breathing was a little labored after all the laps. I might be ready for the Olympic trials, watch out Michal Phelps. After swimming it was time for rehearsal dinner on the River Boat.

The Rehearsal Dinner was so much fun, the cruise down the river was beautiful and the dance party was out of control. And we had a visitor Jeremiah who joined us from the party on the 1st deck and he liked to bust a move in the circle more than any of us.
The nuptials itself took place in the courtyard of The Mulberry Inn and it was just perfect.
I feel so lucky that I got to be a part of Becky's special day and be an honorary member of the Stier clan.

The worst part of the whole weekend was waking up at 4:30 on Sunday morning for a 6am flight home back to NYC. But Shelly made me feel better texting me that as I landed (12pm) everyone was packing up and going home and I wasn't missing much anyway, just a few hours of sleep.

Jon Stier told me that just because I moved in with the Girls (Becky & Shelly) six years ago in New York didn't mean that I got to continually show up at every party and family function he hosts. Well, his weddings are now over, so now Jon's has to find new reasons to throw parties and I have to find more reasons to head South (baby Kenney, vaca weekends with my favorite Southerners, etc)
